When Leslie Green started holding virtual amputee support meetings way back in Year 1 of COVID (that was 2020, if’n you forgot), she knew right away that online platforms would endure long after the pandemic ended. “Virtual sessions will always be a component of the communities I facilitate,” she told Amplitude at that time. Sure enough, her online amputee wellness communities have grown nonstop in the 30 months since then. She holds multiple sessions every week, hosting somewhere around a thousand participants in the aggregate.
With an audience that big, Green is able to reel in more prominent guests than the typical once-a-month support group can. Next Tuesday, she’ll be hosting one of the true giants of disability rights: Judy Heumann. A lifelong disability rights advocate, Heumann has done as much as anyone to establish legal and social institutions that uphold people with disabilities’ independence, dignity, and quality of life.
