We’re three weeks out from Limb Loss Awareness Month, and about five weeks out from one of the big LLAM events: the Amputee Coalition’s Advocacy Forum on April 11-12. Registration has been open for a couple of weeks, and there’s still plenty of time to sign up. Here’s where you can get started.
Why register? The Advocacy Forum will train you to organize supporters in your community and partner with state and federal legislators to enact policies that improve the lives of people with limb loss. The Amputee Coalition’s efforts have yielded many triumphs over the years, and there’s new momentum building for laws to expand insurance coverage for prosthetic devices, fund research projects, provide better support for disabled veterans, promote employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and the like.
Typically held in Washington, D.C., this annual two-day event will happen virtually again (as in 2020) because of the pandemic. It’s open to everyone from political novices to seasoned campaigners. The agenda includes:
* How the legislative process works
* How to engage lawmakers
* Current policy priorities and opportunities for the limb-loss community
* Skills for networking and storytelling
