The Range of Motion Project (ROMP) announced a climbing challenge during July for their organization and for active individuals, families, and groups across the globe. The Denver-based nonprofit is encouraging groups worldwide to organize climbs—ranging from gentle uphill walks to summiting Rocky Mountain peaks—to show their support for the organization’s mission.
ROMP is a technology-based nonprofit organization that provides prosthetic care to underserved populations in many nations and believes that prosthetic limbs and orthotic braces are instruments of personal empowerment.
On July 27 and 28, American and Ecuadorian amputees and able-bodied athletes will attempt to summit Cayambe, Ecuador’s third highest mountain, which stands at approximately 19,000 feet. Through this expedition, ROMP hopes to bring awareness to the unequal distribution of prosthetic care around the world and show what can be achieved when amputees are given access to proper care. The climb will be led by elite athlete Karl Egloff, one of the world’s fastest climbers.
Volunteers throughout the world will also host climbs to raise awareness and funds for individuals who cannot afford or do not have access to prosthetic services.
