CAF Announces Leadership Changes

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) announced that it has initiated two major leadership changes to advance its 2015-2018 strategic plan.

Virginia Tinley, the organization’s first hire and executive director since 1997, will assume a new senior director role responsible for all donor development and philanthropy. She will build on her commitment and knowledge of CAF to increase support from individuals and organizations to increase the number of people around the world who are supported by CAF. CAF said this move is in keeping with its strategic goals of prioritizing fund development and developing other markets for events and activities.

“Virginia’s hard work resulted in global recognition, raising more than $67 million, and assisting more than 11,000 challenged athletes around the world,” said Jeffrey Essakow, CAF’s founding and current board chairman. “We are excited she will now be principally focusing on taking our funding and development to a new level.”

Current board member William K. (Bill) Geppert will serve as interim CEO and lead a nationwide search for the next CEO. In assuming this role, Geppert is continuing a series of senior leadership roles in the community since retiring from Cox Communications in 2011 after a 35-year career.
