Amputee Coalition Accepting Applications for Scott Decker, MD, Memorial Scholarship

The Amputee Coalition is accepting applications for the Scott Decker, MD, Memorial Scholarship for college tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year. The $1,000 scholarship is open to applicants with acquired or congenital limb loss who are under 21 years of age, military veterans, or active duty military personnel; have a minimum current grade point average of 3.0; have minimum SAT/ACT scores in the 60th percentile; are high school seniors, high school graduates, or adults returning to school; and are attending or will be attending an accredited college, university, or trade school as a full-time student. Preference for the scholarship will be given to applicants residing in Maryland, though applications will be accepted from non-Maryland residents. The application deadline is April 6. The recipient will be notified no later than June 8.

The scholarship is given in memory of J. Scott Decker, MD, a Maryland orthopedic surgeon who passed away in 1989. Donations have been made by his friends, family, and colleagues to continue his legacy of serving orthopedically challenged youth. The recipient will be selected based on life experience that reflects decency and kindness, demonstrated perseverance and hard work, academic performance, and realistic life/professional goals.

The Amputee Coalition previously announced that it is accepting applications for its Christina Skoski, MD, Scholarship. The Skoski Scholarship awards $1,000 to a full-time undergraduate student who has a congenital limb difference or an amputation and who is, or whose parent or legal guardian is, a registered friend of the Amputee Coalition. The application deadline is April 6.
