IPC Alpine Skiing Splits Classification for Lower-Limb Impaired Snowboarders

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing announced that the classification for lower-limb impaired snowboarders will be split into two sport classes: SB LL-1 will designate riders who have a significant impairment in one leg, for example a transfemoral amputation, or a significant combined impairment in two legs, such as significant muscle weakness or spasticity. SB LL-2 will designate riders who have an impairment in one or both legs with less activity limitation, such as individuals with transtibial amputations or mild spasticity.

The changes are being introduced in time for the start of the 2014-2015 season, which begins with the World and Europa Cups in Landgraaf, The Netherlands, on November 19 and 20, and is scheduled to include the 2015 IPC Para-Snowboard World Championships in La Molina, Spain, February 23-28.
