The Adventure Amputee Camp (AAC) celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), Bryson City, North Carolina, on July 13. NOC has hosted AAC for 19 years, and a “celebration bench” was installed there overlooking the Nantahala River. At the ceremony, seven plaques were put on the bench in recognition of outstanding volunteers. Campers and past and current board members were on hand for the event.

The mission of the Adventure Amputee Camp is to encourage children with amputations or limb differences to stretch their potential and imagination and explore all that is possible. This is done by providing a variety of indoor and outdoor challenges, such as river rafting, a ropes course, tennis, water-skiing, talent shows, scuba diving, basketball, team play, and peer support. The camp is supported entirely by donations and a minimal camper registration fee.
