Based on the response to our feature article on Nick Harrier (“Banksy Goes Bionic“), the demand for colorful, distinctive prosthetic leg covers is bigger than ever. We’ve lost track of the number of readers who’ve asked us for Nick’s contact information.
A few of those requests have come from overseas. And now comes an answer from across the Atlantic: LIMB-art, a UK-based manufacturer of decorative prosthetic leg covers, is coming to America.
Founded and owned by lower-limb amputee Mark Williams (a former Paralympic medalist), LIMB-art will be partnering with Empire Medical for US distribution.
“We’re delighted to have signed this agreement to launch in America,” Williams said in a press release. “The market in the US is ten times the size of the UK, and we’re expecting to make over 500 leg covers a year for amputees.”
The United States isn’t the only market LIMB-art is looking to conquer. The company will also be launching in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands this spring. They have begun supplying leg covers in Australia, they’re looking at distribution deals for Germany and Spain, and they’d also like to open up shop in Canada, Italy, and the Middle East.
Williams founded LIMB-art in 2018 out of a desire to help fellow amputees wear their prosthetic legs with more confidence, freedom, and fun. Like Harrier, he discovered that decorative covers have a way of promoting healthier interactions between people with limb loss and non-amputees. They defuse tension, minimize awkwardness, and create enthusiasm and admiration for the cover itself.
A part of LIMB-art’s proceeds are used to support charities that help amputees around the world. Check out their catalog at limb-art.com, and find US ordering information at empire-medical.store/limb-art/.
