On October 13, AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement that ACA cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments will be discontinued immediately:
“AARP strongly opposes the Trump Administration’s decision to stop paying the cost-sharing reductions. CSRs provide critical financial help for nearly 6 million people with modest incomes, including for more than 2 million older Americans, to afford the health insurance they need. Discontinuing these subsidies will further destabilize the insurance marketplace, significantly increase families’ premiums, and cause people to lose coverage.
“We continue to urge Congress to focus on bipartisan, commonsense solutions to stabilize the Affordable Care Act insurance marketplace, lower costs, and increase coverage. We support the open, transparent efforts by Senators Alexander and Murray. All Americans need and deserve care and coverage they can count on as they age. AARP will continue to inform our 38 million members on how healthcare decisions from the Administration and Congress affect them and their families.”
