Creative Solutions Contest: Update

Thanks to everybody who submitted an idea to the Creative Solutions Contest. We were uniformly impressed, consistently entertained, and intermittently confused by your imaginative ideas for how to repurpose your old prosthetic gear.

The contest drew more than two dozen entries, ranging from minutely detailed renderings to smartphone snapshots accompanied by captions. The prize for most fully elaborated entry goes to contestant EL, who sent in an exhaustive technical manual and set of engineering specs, with journal citations to boot.

We had to eliminate a handful of entries due to redundancy or lack of completeness. The remainder are now with the judging panel, who will select the three finalists between now and the end of this month. We’ll announce the winners as soon as we have the results, which we expect to occur just after the holiday.

To keep ourselves occupied in the meantime, we’ll just scroll through some other examples of alternative purposes for prostheses, all culled from social media and other corners of cyberspace. None of these people entered our contest, but we admire the creativity nevertheless.
