Our Website’s New Look Is Designed for Better Reading

You may have noticed this week that Amplitude‘s website looks a little cleaner, loads a little faster, and feels a little fresher. That’s because we made a few updates last Friday to improve the user experience so you can access our content with more ease and greater enjoyment.

Some of these changes are invisible to readers, and they’re so technical that we can barely understand them ourselves. We won’t be getting into those here. But we do want to call your attention to new features that you can see, and explain how those elements are designed to add value for our audience.

  1. WE CLEANED UP SOME CLUTTER
We eliminated the left-hand sidebar on our home page and issue landing pages, giving the main content area a lot more room to breathe. The goal was to put Amplitude‘s most recent articles front and center, making it easier for you to keep track of what we’re writing about and to notice new content as soon as it appears.
  2. WE IMPROVED THE MOBILE LAYOUT
A growing number of Amplitude‘s web visitors are reading on their phones and tablets, but our old page arrangement wasn’t optimized for hand-held screens. You’ll find the site a lot more mobile-friendly today than it was last week, with a more accessible scroll and images that look great on a smartphone.
  3. WE SIMPLIFIED THE USER EXPERIENCE
Our overall site navigation is shorter and more focused, with fewer choices but also fewer side alleys and dead ends. We eliminated some redundant pages and took others temporarily offline while we bring them up to snuff. Again, the goal is to make it easier for you to find the content that’s most relevant to you.

As a not-insignificant benefit of all the above, our site now loads faster on both mobile and stationary devices. We still have some improvements to make in that regard, so we hope to get even speedier in the weeks ahead. And we’re anxious to hear your suggestions.
