Top Summer Camps for Amputee Kids in 2023

The thermometer still says winter in a lot of places, but the calendar says spring—and that means it’s already time to start planning for summer camp. For the first time in what seems like forever, no Covid restrictions are impinging on the calendar of amputee camps. Everyone’s fully open for business, and a lot of programs are already accepting applications.

All the amputee summer camps below are already filling slots for 2023 or are in the process of gearing up. If we left your program out, send us an email and we’ll add you in. The camps are listed by date.

June Amputee Camps

LIM359 YOUTH CAMP
When: June 22-24
Where: Denver, CO
About: LIM359 Youth Camp is for individuals 18 and younger with limb loss/difference, their siblings, and children of individuals with limb loss/difference. LIM359 will have new and improved programming for teen participants this year. Participants who are age 15 or older can sign up as a volunteer. Activities at last year’s camp included T-ball, whiffleball, skateboarding, arts and crafts, obstacle courses, soccer, movement/dance, and more.

CAMP NO LIMITS-ILLINOIS
When: June 22-25
Where: Lake Forest, IL
About: Camp No Limits–Illinois takes place on a beautiful campus featuring organic gardens and a wildlife discovery center. Activities include swimming, kayaking, track and field, bicycling, a talent show, life skills, dance, and peer support groups.

July Amputee Camps

ADVENTURE AMPUTEE CAMP
When: 2nd week in July
Where: Bryson City, NC
About: Adventure Amputee Camp serves kids from 8 to 17 years old. The list of activities is very robust and includes whitewater rafting, tennis, water skiing, tubing, basketball, yoga, scuba diving, zip lining, ropes courses, and dodgeball.

CAMP NO LIMITS-MAINE
When: July 17-20
Where: Rome, ME
About: Located on beautiful North Pond, CNL-Maine offers many watersports, including swimming, kayaking, canoeing, a low-ropes course, boat rides, and fishing. Adventure activities like rock climbing and a bungee trampoline are also available, and there are sessions on bicycling, running, dancing, life skills, and peer support.

CAMP NO LIMITS-TEENS
When: July 21-23
Where: Caratunk, ME
About: This specialized camp helps participants develop skills to prepare for adulthood, including leadership, mentorship, team building, and relationship building. Campers work together to challenge themselves and each other in a rustic setting with no technology available. Activities include whitewater rafting, high ropes course, low ropes course, and a river float.

USA PATRIOTS SOFTBALL CAMP
When: July 23-29
Where: Harrisonburg, VA
About: Hosted by the nation’s premier amputee softball team (composed entirely of military veterans), USA Patriots Kids Camp provides fun and instruction for 20 amputee kids aged 8 to 12. The team’s players serve as coaches and mentors, teaching campers adaptive techniques and life lessons that apply on and off the playing field.

SHRINERS UN-LIMB-ITED CAMP
When: July dates TBD
Where: Park City, UT
About: The Un-Limb-Ited Camp is open to teenage Shriners patients from across the country. It affords teenagers with limb difference the chance to form friendships with other amputees and gain self-confidence through camping, whitewater rafting, and other activities. Campers will also explore issues common to teenage amputees, including relationships, body image, bullying, and self-esteem.

CAMP NO LIMITS-CONNECTICUT
When: July dates TBD
Where: Hamden, CT
About: Hosted by Quinnipiac University graduate OT/PT students, this Camp No Limits session lets campers explore a state-of-the-art motion analysis lab and driving simulator. Other activities include sled hockey, ice hockey, bicycling and running clinics, dance, life skills sessions, and a talent show.

August Amputee Camps

AMPUTEE COALITION YOUTH CAMP
When: August 2-5
Where: Orlando, FL
About: Open to amputee kids aged 10 to 17, the Amputee Coalition’s Youth Camp provides innovative and inclusive ways for campers to bond. Designed to let participants have fun, connect, build self-confidence, and make lifelong friendships, the program offers a wide range of activities, including sports, creative arts, and STEM projects.

CAMP NO LIMITS-MARYLAND
When: August 24-27
Where: North East, MD
About: The Maryland session of Camp No Limits takes place on Chesapeake Bay. Activities include zip lining, a giant swing, low and high ropes courses, kayaking in the bay, swimming, bicycling, running, and more. There’s also a talent show, disco dance, peer support groups, and life skills sessions.

Multiple Dates

NATIONAL SPORTS CENTER FOR THE DISABLED ACTIVITY CAMPS
When: Various dates in June, July, and August
Where: Colorado Front Range
About: The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) is a world leader in adaptive outdoor recreation for kids and adults with disabilities of all types. A wide range of summer programs are available, including sports activity clinics, therapeutic horseback riding, rock climbing, river rafting, canoeing, and kayaking.
