The Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF) named Mabio Costa to the role of First Swim Director. Costa, who has a congenital transtibial amputation, is a prosthetic technician with Prosthetic Orthotic Associates in Orlando, Florida. He has been a First Swim instructor since 2011, and has hosted First Swim clinics across the country. Costa is a two-time world champion triathlete, winning in his native Brazil in 1996 and in the United States in 2004.

First Swim is part of the OPAF First Clinics that offer introductory-level adaptive recreation for people with physical and mobility challenges.
