Amputees of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the 2014 Össur Mobility Clinics, a series of free, specialized workshops designed to enhance lower-limb amputees’ experience in sports and recreational activities.

The annual clinics, which are offered by the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), feature a hands-on experience during the half-day sessions. Gait-training experts Bob Gailey, PhD, PT, of the University of Miami, and Peter Harsch, CP, will teach attendees how to walk and run in a fun and encouraging environment.

Participants will learn functional gait techniques to maximize prosthetic capabilities and movement in multiple directions. Attendees who wish to explore higher activity levels can also learn safe ways to improve speed and balance and practice leg-over-leg running mechanics and training skills for activity-specific exercises. During the events, each amputee will be paired with designated clinical volunteers, who will provide personalized guidance on proper gait form, offer physical support when needed, and ensure participants maintain appropriate exertion levels.

Hundreds of people participate in the annual mobility clinics, which provide them the opportunity to have memorable experiences and connect with other amputees, including local peers, Team Össur athletes, and CAF mentors. Locations for the 2014 mobility clinics include Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Boston, San Diego, and Orlando.

While participation in the clinics is free, advance registration is required. For more details and a full schedule of the 2014 mobility clinics, visit http://ossur.com/mobilityclinics.
