Deadline Extended: Researcher Seeks Upper-limb Prosthesis Users for Study

A doctoral candidate, Andrew Hodrien, in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Salford, Manchester, England, is seeking people who use upper-limb prostheses to participate in a study, “A Content Analysis of Factors Associated With Embodiment of Upper Limb Prostheses.” The research will involve semi-structured interviews through e-mail, and responses will be kept confidential. Participants’ use of a prosthesis can be due to amputation or congenital limb loss. Study recruitment opened in June 2016, and the deadline has now been extended to May 31.

The aim of the study is to identify a range of factors associated with upper-limb prosthesis embodiment (i.e., a prosthetic limb is experienced as part of the user) with the purpose of understanding the factors involved in why some prosthesis users feel like their limb is a part of their body, while others do not.
