The Endeavor Games Go Virtual

May 20, 2020
0

For the first time this century, the University of Central Oklahoma won’t be hosting the Endeavor Games. Not on its campus in Edmond, anyway. But the 20-year-old event, one of the nation’s most popular multi-sport, multi-disability athletic competitions, will still be held—and participants can still sign up at no cost.

Registration for the first-ever Virtual Endeavor Games opened last week, with activities set to take place June 4 through 7. The long weekend will include a dozen live clinics hosted via Zoom, including new sessions in paratriathlon, wheelchair football, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis. All are hosted by coaching luminaries from the national governing bodies in each sport. You can register for as many clinics as you want.

There’s also a Thursday night welcome party, also hosted via Zoom.

The competition itself will consist of individual challenges in 11 sports, with athletes self-reporting their results. You can register in:

* Archery
* Air rifle
* Cycling
* Sitting volleyball
* Swimming
* Wheelchair basketball
* Track
* Field
* 5K

There’s also an e-sports tournament with football, basketball, and soccer divisions.

Since its founding in 2000, the Endeavor Games have brought together athletes of all ages and ability levels, from kids to grandparents and novices to future Paralympians. Last year’s event drew adaptive athletes from a record 31 states, including nearly 150 athletes with limb difference.
