Strong is the 2012 World Champion in para-snowboard cross, and has won multiple World Cup titles (including overall Crystal Globe in 2016-17 season). He was the first male athlete to win a Paralympic gold medal in snowboarding (when the sport debuted in the Paralympics).
Though he grew up in Maui, Hawaii — where snow is rare — he pivoted into elite snowboarding after moving to Lake Tahoe in 2007. Before snowboarding, he was a skateboarder and surfer; even post-amputation he still skates, surfs, and mountain bikes.
