These 17 Members of Congress Need to Hear From Amputees. Now.

July 16, 2025
0

Next Monday, a key Congressional subcommittee will decide whether to sustain funding for the National Limb Loss Resource Center. Since its creation in 1997, the NLLRC has connected hundreds of thousands of amputees with information, peer visitation, support groups, family networking, and many other forms of support.

But as we described last month, the White House wants to eliminate the NLLRC. The administration’s proposed budget completely defunds the program. Congress doesn’t have to grant that request. It already has rejected the same request once, back in 2017, sustaining the NLRCC with strong bipartisan support over the administration’s objections. Members of the current Congress also want to sustain the NLLRC, because they know it meets a critical need for their constituents. But they’re under intense political pressure to fulfill the administration’s demands. Voters need to apply some political pressure in the opposite direction, and encourage the committee members to vote their consciences and protect the public interest.

The 17 members of the House Appropriations Committee’s subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Human Services are listed below, along with their office phone numbers and email contact info. This is public information; we’re not doxxing anybody. These elected officials need to hear from the community they serve. Let them know why it’s essential to protect the National Limb Loss Resource Center.
