Brickelle Bro

The Backstory:
Brickelle Bro had a fibular hemimelia and amniotic band syndrome before birth that caused her to amputate both of her legs below the knees. At age eight she started swimming and quickly made a name for herself after competing at the CanAms in 2011, followed by finishing fifth at the 2012 Paralympics Games in London. Bro set two American records in high school and another as a freshman at Stanford University. She went on to compete in the 2016 Paralympic Games.

Away from swimming:
Bro attended and graduated from Stanford university and has continued her education at Brigham Young University in their law program. In her community, she is active in encouraging people through her life and competition experiences.

In their own words:
“Even if I’m really stressed about school or other things, I go swim hard and I feel like I’ve really accomplished something,”

“I tell the groups I talk to that at anything in life, you just have to keep going. In the end, it will be worth it,

“Being a part of Team USA means that an entire country is standing behind you, wanting YOU to succeed. It is being a part of something so much bigger than yourself.”
