AJ Digby

The Backstory:
AJ Digby was born bilateral fibular hemimelia, which caused his fibulas to be underdeveloped, and at ten months old he had both legs amputated below the knee. Soon after the amputation he was fitted with prosthetics, getting new ones as his legs developed. Throughout his childhood he has played multiple sports, including football, sled hockey, and in 2008 discovered track and field after watching the Paralympics. Ever since he started, he has been competing with running blades. Digby performed well at the 2016 Paralympic Games where he placed 4th in the 400m, 5th in the 200m and 6th in the 4x100m relay. He went on to race at the 2017 World Championships, earning a bronze medal in the 400m and 4th in the 200m.

Away from the track:
Digby recently graduated from the University of Mount Union with a degree in Business. He enjoys getting outside, racing cars, and hanging out with friends and family.

In their own words:
“Pretty much everything I had planned over the next year has been pushed back a year. Luckily for me, with the disability I have, I have been able to adapt my whole life.”

“In all disasters, sports bring people together. And the Olympics will be the pinnacle of that with all the countries coming together. It will be amazing to experience.”

“Sports are my life. I’m excited to get back to work. I will use this opportunity to do the best I can for those that can’t compete anymore.”
